Built in the year 1888 in the New York factory of Steinway and Sons, this classic upright piano was considered by Steinway purists the most popular of all Steinway uprights during Steinway's golden era. It is all Steinway -- that is, parts, action, harp plate. All felts and metal parts were made by Steinway in the steinway factory. This is uncommon today where many of the parts are farmed out to other suppliers. This Steinway cabinet is fully original as it left the factory in 1888. No action replacements have been made and no modifications to the cabinet have been done -- the cabinet is fully original as when new. The finish is also original, though we did revarnish the original ebony. This piano was purchased from the estate of a relative of the original family. This piano spent the last 25 years in preservative storage and is a heirloom. If you could find such a piano new, it would cost at least double today. |
